Binghamton Bearcats hosts Lacrosse Prospect Camp

VESTAL, NY (WBNG) - The Binghamton Men’s Lacrosse Team hosted a prospect camp Wednesday afternoon to provide high schoolers with an in-depth look at what the student-athlete experience is like in an NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse program. Bearcats Head Coach Kevin McKeown spoke about the advantages of doing this camp with local prospective Binghamton lacrosse athletes.

“We’re looking to give guys a good experience,” said McKeown. “We hope everybody can walk with something that they’ve learned and take home to get better. And certainly, it’s a great chance for us to evaluate the players that are interested in our school.”

The camp consisted of players being put through high-level skill instruction, live drills, and scrimmage situations that the Bearcats lacrosse program currently uses with their athletes. McKeown was asked how this camp helps with recruiting and improving Bearcats lacrosse for the future.

“It shows us who’s really serious about Binghamton when we invite some kids here,” said McKeown. “And the ones that make an effort to come, we know that they’re serious about the school. When we get to spend four hours on the field with them throughout the day, we’re able to get to know them as people, and not just numbers on the back of a jersey.”

After a record-setting 9-win season and a conference tournament berth in 2023, Binghamton men’s lacrosse will look to bounce back next year after finishing a game below .500 and missing the tourney last spring. McKeown provided an update on team plans moving forward as the new school year approaches.

“It’s an exciting time,” said McKeown. “It’s always fun to get the new guys in and see how they mesh with the new team. So, really the fall is about getting to know the new guys and acclimating them to how we do things here on and off the field.”

McKeown will be entering his ninth season at the helm of Binghamton men’s lax in 2025 as he continues to transform the program into a conference contender.
